Dr. John S. Morgan
Dr. John S. Morgan is the ICAHST Chairman Emeritus and serves as the Command Science Advisor for the US Army Special Operations Command. At USASOC, Dr. Morgan advises the command on matters relating to science and technology across all components, directorates, and commodity areas. In addition, Dr. Morgan maintains USASOC's relationships with external science and technology stakeholders, including research agencies, universities, and commercial providers.
Prior to coming to USASOC, Dr. Morgan served as the Deputy Director for Science and Technology at the Department of Defense Combating Terrorism Technical Support Office (CTTSO). He also spent nine years in the Department of Justice, where he directed the Office of Science and Technology, which is responsible for development of new technology for use in law enforcement. While at the Department of Justice, Dr. Morgan received the Service to America medal for his work to advance the nation's capacity to use DNA evidence. Dr. Morgan conducted research in detection and mitigation of weapons of mass destruction at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). His research work at APL also included non-destructive evaluation, explosives detection, optoelectronic materials, and spacecraft systems.
Dr. Morgan served eight years in the Maryland House of Delegates, serving on the Judiciary, Ethics, and Commerce and Government Matters Committees. He received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 1990; his B.S. in Physics is from Loyola College in Maryland.
