Counter-Improvised Explosive Device Informational Workshop:

Date: 19 August 2008

Location:
National Reconnaissance Office
14675 Lee Road
Chantilly, VA 20151

Purpose: In conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security and the US Intelligence Community, the Interagency Council for Applied Homeland Security Technology (ICAHST) and the National Reconnaissance Office sponsored this event which focused on Intelligence Community Efforts / Plans for the protection of the homeland against Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

IEDs have been used by terrorists in numerous attacks over the years and remain as a weapon of strategic influence and a formidable threat to world security. They are easy to make, difficult to defeat, and cause large-scale death and destruction. This informational workshop and exposition provided a forum for representatives from the law enforcement, counterterrorism, and intelligence communities to assess the domestic threat and address other key issues and critical mission needs in support of IED defeat and prevention for the homeland. Emphasis was placed on the activities of the Intelligence Community including advancing research and technology to prevent IEDs and sharing information with federal, state, and local partners.
